A big family holiday is right around the corner. It’s the perfect time to share a story about one of my most favorite weddings this year. It’s been a few months since I sat down to write about my couples. All the travel between Las Vegas and Hawaii made me realize that time with family is precious. Now that a big family holiday Thanksgiving is in a few days, I feel a bit uneasy. My special one is far away, starting a new venture at his new job. This year we are missing the chance to celebrate this holiday as a family. Celebrations are better with family!
That thought reminded me of the beautiful, very heart-warming wedding of Tafara and Kevin. Their special day will forever stay in my memory because of the couple and people who attended that wedding. A wedding that felt like a family holiday. But first, let me introduce you to the heroes of the occasion.
Tafara and Kevin met in grade school in Kinston, North Carolina. After attending the school for only one year, Tafara moved to Las Vegas. Time passed and nothing foreshadowed the romantic development of their relationship until that very summer came when Tafara was back to visit her grandmother…
“The first time I saw Kevin, I didn’t think much of him,” Tafara says in her love story on their wedding website. “He was my cousin’s weird best friend with the prettiest brown eyes that would always stare at me. The funny thing is he would never speak, but the first time I saw him that summer, boy did he catch my eye! I remember thinking, “oh my gosh, why does this boy make me feel nervous all of a sudden?” Awe…We all know that feeling, don’t we?
“It was like looking at something out of a magazine. She had Vegas written all over her. I knew I had game but I really didn’t want to mess this up.” Kevin says. “Jarell (Kevin’s Best Man), Tafara, and I all went out. When it was time to head home, Jarell just so happened to have a flat tire so that left Tafara without a ride back to her hotel. It was at that very moment I was given a second chance! I asked her if she would like a ride to her hotel, and, to my surprise, she said yes! That night we talked for hours outside her hotel and developed a friendship that would last forever.” And now, a few years later, they are married and expecting a baby girl. How do you like this turn of the events?
Loving and caring (and “giving and receiving” as Joey Tribbiani from “Friends” would say) are the best words to describe Tafara and Kevin and their families. I met Tafara’s mom in the very beginning of our wedding planning journey. She was a very kind, very sweet and very elegant lady. When I met the couple’s friends and family, I felt the same about everyone. Even though I wasn’t a part of their family, that wedding day felt like home. It felt like a family holiday! Their guests filled the space with their awesome personalities, great energy and readiness to celebrate the love of Tafara and Kevin!
Well, since I mentioned the space, let me tell you about the magic fairies who made that wedding day especially wonderful. Tafara was looking for a unique space that would give her a chance to create an immersive experience her guests would be talking about for a long time. After reviewing a few options, she fell in love with the Veil Pavilion at Silverton Casino Hotel. Her day started with pampering in her hotel room with her bridesmaids. LuxLife Photography was there to capture the girls getting ready and excited. While Tafara and Kevin, and their entourage, were preparing for the fun to start, Byanca’s Event Decor, E3 Candids LV, Silverton catering staff, and my assistant and I were setting up the wedding. One of my most favorite things was Tafara’s dessert bar. She ordered sweet treats from Sweet Adilenes, cake pops from The Cupcakery, some popcorn, and cookies from the American Great Cookies which was a surprise for Kevin because he loved those so much. The cake from the Cake World had two sides, one with elegant wedding decor and another one fun picturing construction. Again, another surprise for Kevin because he works in construction.
- Color Palette: The wedding was decorated in Burgundy, Pink and Silver colors.
- Setting: We had two sets of all-white lounge furniture to let people relax when everyone would start dancing. We also had two lit up bars that looked awesome. Tafara’s uplighting was moving from the ambient color to purples and blues.
- Personalization: To make the bar experience more personalized, Tafara and Kevin provided his (Hennessy & Coke) and hers (Apple Crown, Cranberry Juice, Pineapple Juice, and Gingerale) specialty drinks. Instead of table numbers they used the names of popular casino games which was a very fun idea!
- Entertainment: To add a final touch to their wedding entertainment, Tafara and Kevin booked a caricature artist. Their guests had fun and took their pictures home as party favors.
Warm, special, loving, fun, happy…These words come to my mind when I think of that day. A wedding that felt like a family holiday. They are now living their happily ever after and expecting a little baby girl. I couldn’t be happier for these two!
